Apparently I need to pay a little more attention to detail and actually read my email messages when they are sent to me. I apologize for this being my first post of the semester.
I am currently interning at UMGD (Universal Music Group Distribution) in St. Louis Park. So far it has been a great experience. I really think I lucked out with where I was placed. I think I am getting the best overall experience you get from an internship here at Universal. I have plenty of responsibilities, and truly get to learn the system. It's nice knowing my work actually makes a difference.
I am in the Sales & Marketing Dept. for Universal/Motown/Republic. This is the largest division under the entire Universal label. It is our responsibility to work with accounts like Target and Best Buy to get them to bring our products into their stores, and get placement in their weekly ads. I do quite a bit of analysis, like what an artists previous album has sold, and project what their next album will sell. Its definitely not easy these days, with all the digital downloading that takes place.
My biggest project thus far has been organizing a raffle for a charity called City of Hope that does cancer research. We got all of the branches together and they donated all kinds of Autographed Music Memorabilia. Then we sold raffle tickets for $5 each. We ended up raising $5000. Not too bad if you ask me.
Well I think that gets me up to speed thus far. I promise there will be more to come.
